How much money does an average full-time worker earn?

The average ordinary-time earnings (i.e. excluding overtime and bonuses) for a full-time worker was $1,838.10 per week in May, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. That equates to $95,581.20 per year.

As the graph shows, earnings tend to increase over the long-term. But so does inflation. For workers to get richer, wages have to increase faster than prices.

Unfortunately, that has not happened recently. Earnings increased 3.9% over the year to May, but inflation was 5.6% during the same period.
