Mortgage brokers originated 69.6% of all new residential home loans in the March quarter, according to data from Comparator.
This is a record result, and means consumers were more than twice as likely to visit a broker as go directly to a lender (which occurred on 30.4% of occasions).
Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia CEO Anja Pannek said brokers provide consumers with expert support and the ability to compare the market.
"Mortgage brokers help homebuyers understand their options in what is a complex and dynamic mortgage lending environment," she said.
"The current environment of inflationary pressures, multiple increases to the cash rate and rising cost of living is adding to this complexity, and has really brought the service mortgage brokers provide in guiding their clients into the fore."
