Thereโs been a big change in CommSecโs quarterly State of the States ranking, which assesses states based on eight key indicators.
Victoria, which placed sixth last quarter, has seized the top spot, while Tasmania, which placed first last quarter (and 12 of the previous 14 quarters) has fallen to sixth.
South Australia rose from second to third, New South Wales slipped from third to second, and Queensland (fourth), Western Australia (fifth), the ACT (seventh) and Northern Territory (eighth) remained unchanged.
States are ranked on housing finance, home building starts, economic growth, unemployment, population growth, equipment investment, construction and retail spending, with current performances compared to long-term averages.x
