The national unemployment rate remained at a very low 3.7% in August, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, but the job situation actually improved in three important ways.
First, an extra 65,000 people found work.
Second, the number of unemployed people fell by 2,600.
Third, the participation rate โ which measures the share of adults who either have a job or are looking for one โ rose from 66.9% to a record 67.0%.
However, there was one piece of gloomy news: the underemployment rate โ which measures the share of people who arenโt working as many hours as theyโd like โ rose from 6.4% to 6.6%.
